Full Review

The Oceanic VT3 dive computer does everything you’d expect your average dive computer to do these days; it displays your current depth, temperature, ascent rate graphs, dive time elapsed and so on. It also does so much more. The Oceanic VT3 is air integrated and wireless which means you can do away with your high pressure hose, however if you turn the receiver off, it acts just like a non-air integrated dive computer. It can manage 4 dive types – air, nitrox, gauge and freedive. The advanced free dive mode enables the free diver to track nitrogen tissue loading, a first for free diving computers.

Useability and Features

The Oceanic VT3 has a slim profile with a large screen and bigger digits for easy reading, and with the polished stainless steel housing keeper it also looks impressive. There are two buttons on the front which some divers prefer, as a front and side button can sometimes be confusing, especially when you’re unfamiliar with your equipment.

Audible alarms always look good in the specs, but often you don’t hear them – despite many people’s perceptions it can sometimes be quite noisy down there, and a warning alarm is something you definitely don’t want to miss! The Oceanic VT3’s alarm sounds continuously for 10 seconds and is only deactivated when you press a button. You also have the option of turning all alarms and LED warning lights off.

This Oceanic VT3 dive computer can accommodate up to three different nitrox mixes (21% – 100%) which you can seamlessly switch between on the fly. If you want to monitor the pressure of up to 3 cylinders independently, the VT3 can keep track of your pony bottles, decompression cylinders or your dive buddy’s cylinder. The ability to check the pressure of up to 2 other divers’ cylinders is a feature called Buddy Check and when in this mode, the Oceanic VT3 searches for another transmitter which must be within a 46 ft range and displays the results for you. A lot of divers might think that this feature is a bit lame or purely bells and whistles, but if you’ve ever spent time on a dive pursuing your dive buddy so you can check their cylinder pressure you quickly recognise the advantage this feature offers!

Other features such as battery “Hot Swap” and the ability to store up to 24 dives in the on-board memory are further reasons to consider this computer. Throw in advanced features like Air Time Remaining, Dive Time Remaining and the Tissue Loading bar graphs and the VT 3 becomes so much more than your average dive computer.
